What about choosing to parent?
No one ever imagines themselves a parent when they didn’t plan on being one. We dream of one day, never thinking it will happen sooner than we want. If you find you are unexpectedly pregnant, we want you to know it is definitely possible for you to parent your child.
Is parenting right for me?
Being a good parent has nothing to do with whether you planned on getting pregnant or not. It has everything to do with the time and effort you put into caring for your child.
You may have more questions than answers about parenting at this time. That’s normal, and we want to help. Clients who have considered parenting are concerned about things like this:
- My husband or boyfriend doesn’t want the baby, but I do
- (for men) My girlfriend doesn’t want the baby, but I do
- How do I tell my family?
- How will I finish school?
- How will I continue working?
- Where will I live?
- I don’t have medical insurance.
- I can’t afford a child.
- I’m too young
Parenting comes with a huge responsibility but also an incredible reward.

Finding strength
Unfortunately, babies don’t come with instruction manuals. How to raise a child is different for every person because every child is unique and special. Many women choose not to parent because they don’t think they will have the financial, emotional, or material support they need. Try having those difficult questions with those around you. You might be amazed at how much support you are offered.
The Pregnancy Resource Center will be with you at every stage of your pregnancy and parenting journey. We want to give you the tools and advice you need to step into parenting confidently. Our peer consultants will be happy to answer questions and help you find the community resources you need.
